Man Killed in Barge Accident
A man working on a barge on the Mississippi was killed in an accident recently. The barge was near Buffalo, just west of Davenport when the accident occurred. He fell off the barge he was working on and was dragged under another, killing him.
A ruling by the Iowa Industrial Commission stated that the man was not entitled to workers’ compensation benefits, but would receive death benefits. This ruling is founded by the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act even though he was killed on the job.
