Man dies working construction at UI

Posted on September 3rd, 2010 No Comments

49-year old Tom Fosdick of Cedar Rapids passed away Wednesday after falling at a construction site at University of Iowa on Monday.  Fosdick was employed by Swanson Glass, who was sub-contracted to work on a construction project to restore the exterior of the University of Iowa Boyd Law Building.

Iowa’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigated the workplace accident and has already fined the project’s general contractor Miron Construction of Neenah, Wisconsin $15,293 for 19 safety violations.  OSHA has six to eight weeks total to investigate the incident and determine who, if anyone, was at fault for Fosdick’s death.

Construction at the law school resumed on Thursday.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Fosdick’s family and friends during this difficult time.
