OSHB fines construction company for worker’s death

The Occupational Safety and Health Bureau of Iowa’s Division of Labor Services recently issued a fine of $14,000 to Iowa Bridge and Culvert, Inc. for the death of a worker in January.

On January 24, a 52-year-old man working for the company at the University of Iowa was killed when a steel beam fell on top of him. Upon investigations into the accident, it was found that the company did not inspect its construction sites everyday prior to working, as is required by safety regulations.

This was not the first time Iowa Bridge and Culvert, Inc. violated safety standards. In 2009, the company received nine citations for safety violations.
