Iowa farmer burned in field

An 80 year-old farmer in Humboldt County is in the burn unit of the University of Iowa Medical Center after he received burns to his arms, legs, and face. The man was in the field alone, cutting corn stalks with his tractor, when a fire broke out last Thursday.

Another farmer saw smoke coming from the field and called 911. Humboldt Count Sheriff says that farmer had a small fire break out in his field earlier that day as well. Several farmers nearby helped the fire department reach the man and pull him to safety.

That fire was one of eight reported that day in the county. Dozens more were reported that day across northern Iowa after heavy winds pushed through the region.
