Crane collapse kills one worker, injures another
A crane that collapsed at a construction site in Manhattan killed one worker and seriously injured another. At least three other people were treated for minor injuries. Workers were building a subway line extension for the for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority when the accident occurred.
The worker, 30, died after the crane broke in two pieces, one 80 feet long and another 40 feet long. One person was taken to the hospital with serious leg injuries. Dozens of emergency responders helped with the dangerous extraction of the workers.
All construction on the site has been suspended while an investigation is ongoing. This is New York City’s third fatal crane accident in four years.
