Construction worker killed by falling canopy
One construction worker was killed and two others were injured on Tuesday after a steel-beamed canopy they were standing on collapsed, causing them to fall 15 to 20 feet to the ground. The man who died was hit by the beam after he fell.
The second construction worker was conscious and breathing when emergency responders arrived and complained of severe pain. He was transported to the hospital. A third worker suffered minor injuries to his hand.
OSHA will inspect the construction area to determine if any violations led to the fatal accident. The construction company was previously fined by OSHA in 2008 for failing to ensure that all electrical cords were protected from potential damage.
