Federal government to face major workplace safety challenges next year
A report released by the Inspector General on December 18 projected that the Labor Department will face major challenges in protecting the health and safety of workers in the country this coming year.
The report stated that, although the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been successful in decreasing workplace deaths in the country, OSHA faces the challenge of extending its reach to areas and industries with the highest risk of workplace injuries.
OSHA, which was created in 1970, monitors more than 8 million businesses in the country to ensure safety and health measures are being implemented in the workplace.
