A large number of fatal workplace falls are ladder-related, CDC finds

A review of 2011 national data by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that ladder falls are a major cause of injury and death in workplaces across the country.

The research, published on April 25 in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, found that 20% of work-related falls involve ladders. The CDC further revealed that 43% of fatal falls recorded within the last ten years were associated with ladder use.

Construction, mining, repair, and maintenance workers are among those who are at a higher risk of ladder falls, the CDC added.
