Bill May Raise Costs, Lower Quality of Care
Senate File 155 plans to change workers’ compensation law to allow injured employees more choice in their health care providers after a workplace injury. While this seems like a good idea at first glance, it is being heavily opposed by the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.
Currently, the employer is allowed to choose the treating physician after injuries. According to the PCIAA, if this changes, employees could recieve worse health care after injury. This is because the health care providers will not be able to have as close a relationship with the companies, possibly keeping information about the injury out of their grasp.
