Chrysler Bankruptcy V. Michigan Workers’ Compensation
Auto maker Chrysler LLC currently pays $25 million a year to Michigan’s Self Insurers Security Fund. This fund pays for workers’ compensation benefits for self insured employers in the state.
If Chrysler is sold in its bankruptcy, its debtors may not continue payments to the fund. This would mean eventual insolvency for the fund, leaving injured workers without compensation.
