Supreme Court gives woman new trial in pregnancy firing case

The Iowa Supreme Court ordered a new trial in a case involving a woman who believes she was fired because she had a baby. Although Elizabeth DeBoom lost the original trial, the Supreme Court overturned the original verdict on the basis that DeBoom was prejudiced by jury instructions. 

According to court documents, DeBoom gave birth in January 2004 and returned to work a month later. In mid-April, she was fired for failing to complete a number of projects.

However, DeBoom contends that she was fired because she had a child. She alleges that her boss asked her repeatedly whether she would become a stay-at-home mother.
