Jewel-Osco employee files disability discrimination lawsuit
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit Monday, alleging that Jewel-Osco did not properly accomodate a pharmacy worker's disability. The disability discrimination lawsuit centers around the question of whether Jewel-Osco provided acceptable accomodations for the worker's allergic reactions to cosmetic fragrances.
The suit is filed under the Americans With Disabilities Act, a law enacted in 1990 to protect employees against disability discrimination. In this case, the pharmacy worker asked the store manager not to permit co-workers to wear cologne or perfume, and the suit alleges that the manager did not comply with the request.
