This year, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) hopes to educate workers about falls by inviting employers to hold a Safety Stand Down on fall hazards and prevention in the construction industry.
Employers were asked to conduct a safety meeting about falls anytime from June 2 to June 6. With the goal of reaching out to 500,000 workers in the U.S., the OSHA hopes to raise the consciousness of one in ten construction workers in the country about construction falls. The campaign was launched in light of an increasing number of fall-related deaths at construction sites. In 2012, 269 out of 775 construction deaths were reported to be fall-related.
A lack of workplace safety measures exposes the workers to dangers that might cost them their health, their career, or even their lives.
